Lucy Liu, Co-Founder and President of the Australian fintech start-up Airwallex, joined us on 16 September to share her career journey in the fintech space and her company’s rise to become Australia’s third-ever tech unicorn.

Airwallex specializes in digital payments and cross-border transactions, and has gained the backing of investors including Tencent, Mastercard and Horizon Ventures. Liu herself has received many accolades, including being featured in Forbes’ “30 Young Entrepreneurs in Asia,” SmartCompany’s “30 under 30” award, and EY’s “Australian Entrepreneur of the Year.”

In a conversation with WEC Chairman Nikki Ng, Liu explained how the idea of Airwallex emerged, what sets the company apart from its competitors in the cross-border payment industry, and what Airwallex is doing to service not just conglomerates but also small and medium-sized businesses. Liu also took some time to share the company culture at Airwallex, and give some tips on how she manages work-life integration.
