Global Economy on the Road to Recovery?
The world economy is back on the road to stability, according to Thomas Shik, Acting Chief Economist of Hang Seng Bank. Speaking at the Chamber’s roundtable luncheon on 6 January about the outlook of the Mainland, the U.S. and Hong Kong’s economies, he said he expects Hong Kong to benefit from the stabilizing Mainland economy and a modest pickup in global growth. He said it is too early to say what “Trump effect” we might see, but he pointed out that the Republicans have long been champions of open trade and free markets. Therefore, even if Trump tries to implement trade protectionist measures, he would first have to get them passed.
