Chamber CEO Patrick Yeung attended the networking reception at the Canton Fair on April 14 in Guangzhou. He had friendly exchanged with Chu Shijia, Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the Canton Fair, Secretary of the CPC Committee of China Foreign Trade Centre (CFTC) as well as leaders from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Commerce.

CHU expressed the development of the Canton Fair has been strongly supported by the industrial and commercial sectors of Hong Kong and Macao. The Hong Kong and Macao regions have always been the areas with the most buyers attending the Canton Fair. This edition of the Canton Fair will fully showcase the latest achievements in the development of China's new productive forces and actively promote global trade development. It is hoped that the industrial and commercial sectors of Hong Kong and Macao will leverage their unique advantages, make good use of the great platform of the Canton Fair to expand their development space, reach more cooperation, and better help the high-level opening up and high-quality development of the Greater Bay Area.

The Ministry of Commerce will pragmatically promote the implementation of the "Arrangement on Closer Economic Partnership" (CEPA), support Hong Kong and Macao's full and active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and deepen the exchange and cooperation between Hong Kong, Macao, and various countries and regions in a more open and closer manner.

The Symposium on the Promotion and Protection of Hong Kong and Macao Investments in Jiangsu Province Ordinance (referred to as the "Ordinance") was held in Hong Kong yesterday. Fan Jinlong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Executive Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, led a delegation to introduce the latest amendments to the "Ordinance" and relevant information to Hong Kong's business community, aiming to promote high-level cooperation and high-quality development with Hong Kong and Macao.

Fan Jinlong explained that Jiangsu Province took the lead in promulgating the "Ordinance" in 2014. In July 2022, at the 31st meeting of the 13th Standing Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Congress, a decision was made to amend the "Ordinance". So far, the "Ordinance" remains the only local regulation in the country concerning investment in Hong Kong and Macao. Its implementation is an important measure to implement the major decisions of the Party Central Committee on expanding high-level opening-up and the requirements of the provincial party committee's deployment. Chamber CEO Patrick Yeung and China Committee Vice Chairman Felix Lee attended the 2024 Hong Kong Spring Reception and 135th Canton Fair Promotion Seminar on 18 March. The event, which welcomed over 200 guests, was jointly organized by the China Foreign Trade Centre and the Commercial Office of the Economic Affairs Department at the Hong Kong Liaison Office.
