Hong Kong Franchise Association

fa_logo.gif (1527 bytes)The Hong Kong Franchise Association was established in 1992 within the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce to monitor and promote the development of franchising activities in Hong Kong, China and Southeast Asia. As a focal point for liaison with the government on matters concerning franchising and its applications, the HKFA aims to further promote franchising as well as strengthen standards of practice.

The Hong Kong Coalition of Service Industries

csi_logo.gif (493 bytes)The Hong Kong Coalition of Service Industries was founded in 1990 by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. It is the Chamber's service policy think-tank. With representatives from more than 50 service sectors, the HKCSI is the major private sector voice for Hong Kong's service industries.

The Pacific Basin Economic Council

Pbec.gif (5644 bytes)PBEC was founded in 1967 as an association of business leaders from the Pacific Region. At present, its membership includes some 1,200 companies from 20 member economies, namely Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and the United States. The Hong Kong, China Member Committee was formally associated with PBEC in 1989.

The current Chairman of PBEC Hong Kong, China, is Mr. David Eldon, Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited. Mr. J P Lee, Director of Lippo Limited, and Mr. D W M Fergusson, President and Group Chief Executive of Prudential Asia Investments Limited, are Vice-Chairmen of PBEC Hong Kong, China. Dr. Eden Woon is the Director General in charge of running the Secretariat.

The major advantages of PBEC membership are as follows:

Participation in International General Meetings

PBEC membership allows attendance at PBEC International General Meetings (IGM). The IGM not only provides a suitable opportunity for business networking, but also allows participants to mix with ministers, government officials, as well as with academics and senior executives from the member companies.

The next IGM is planned for Tokyo, Japan, from 6 to 10 April 2001. For registration, please visit the IGM 2001 website at www.tokyo-cci.or.jp/pbec2001/.

A Platform to Promote Hong Kong

PBEC is an excellent platform to put Hong Kong on the Pacific map. Traditionally, the PBEC Hong Kong, China Committee enjoys a high profile.

The PBEC Hong Kong, China Member Committee had the privilege of hosting the 32nd PBEC IGM here from May 14 to 19, 1999. The event attracted approximately 900 delegates and media representatives.

The Independent Voice of Business in the Pacific

With the advance of "open regionalism," it is increasingly important for the private sector to put its views and concerns on international trade and investment policies to governments, and PBEC is an important vehicle to achieve this. PBEC participates actively in APEC working groups, organizes joint conferences, and liaisons with leading personalities from the other regional and global organizations, like APEC, PECC, or the WTO.

The PBEC International Membership Directory contains details of each members' business to enable wider exposure for them in the 20-member economies. In addition, PBEC serves as a resourceful information centre through meetings, publications, conferences, business opportunity tours, and special reports.

You can join either as a "Supporter" member for an annual fee of HK$18,000, or as a "Corporate" member for HK$7,750. "Supporters" have a seat on the Executive Committee, and also have their company's name shown in correspondence.

Should you require more information, please contact Ms Erica Ng, Secretary of the Committee, on (852) 2823 1296.
