The Hong Kong SME Award highlights and commends outstanding local small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Apart from setting examples for other entrepreneurs to follow, the Award also provides an opportunity for SMEs to learn from each other and motivates them to contribute further to the development of the Hong Kong economy. I would like to offer my sincerely congratulations to the Award winners. | My congratulations to the winners of this year's
Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Award. SMEs in Hong Kong have always occupied an
important place in our economy and have contributed significantly to the development of
the industrial and services sectors. As engines powering the creation of employment, SMEs
have increasingly been recognised as the linchpin of any productive economy. The Chamber is fully aware of the social and economic relevance of SMEs and has focused our efforts to improve the productivity and competitiveness of this very important sector by providing various services and programmes. This Award in conjunction with the Productivity Council is one of the many initiatives undertaken by the Chamber to help SMEs get ahead. I wish all winning companies every success in the years to come. |

Now in its second year, the Hong Kong SME Award 2000 aims to recognize the achievements of local small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and identify success models to spearhead Hong Kong's continued growth and competitiveness. With the theme "Finance + Innovation = The Road to Success", I believe the Award will serve its objective well by identifying companies that have taken innovation as a productivity strategy in every aspects of their business operations. Their success stories will undoubtedly serve as benchmarks for other local SMEs in their continuous pursuit for productivity excellence in the 21st Century. | Success Driven By Innovation SMEs (small and medium enterprises) are the major driving force of Hong Kong's economy as they make up 98% of our corporations. We believe that the prosperity and growth of the local economy will continue to be driven by our SMEs. It gives us tremendous pleasure to sponsor the "Hong Kong SME Award 2000", organized by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Productivity Council. The event is particularly meaningful as it recognizes the contribution and innovation of our SMEs, and also inspires other SMEs to greater achievements. Greenwood Capital fully supports the event as we have been partnering with SMEs on their path to success. The theme of the year's Award is "Financing + Innovation", the two elements essential for SMEs to flourish. Only when SMEs are backed with appropriate financing will they be able to keep funding their innovation. Our economy is such a buoyant one because SMEs have been collectively exerting their innovative efforts. On behalf of Greenwood, may I wish the award-winners every success, and that SMEs in Hong Kong will keep on innovating, being flexible and adaptable, as these are the renowned qualities of our entrepreneurs, who make Hong Kong's economy a prosperous one. |
